Prescription drugs
Some prescription medications require pre-approval from Blue Cross NC. Before you buy, you can check to see if your prescriptions need pre-approval by visiting the FEP Blue pharmacy page. You can also call the Retail Pharmacy Program at 800-624-5060, or check your plan brochure for more information.
Pre-approvals for medical services
Some procedures and services require pre-approval from Blue Cross NC. Services that may require pre-approval include:
- Hospice care
- Inpatient hospital admission
- Organ and tissue transplants
- Behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorder)
Before you make your appointment for these services, have your doctor or provider call us at 800-222-4739. Your doctor can also find pre-approval forms on our provider prior authorization page.
